Course description

In this course we discuss the human practices of economic exchange. Markets are seen as human phenomena. The focus will therefore be on for example how markets are organized and how the economy (resource management) can be seen as a social, political, and cultural phenomena as well as how the economy and society are interrelated. Social sciences studies of markets (market studies) is an interdisciplinary research area that approaches the economy from the point of view of economic social and everyday life. Accordingly, markets are understood as actively created and organised forms of exchange which can be explained in relation to the social, cultural, material and historical contexts of individuals and groups
